Imagine this: 1 day a week, you actually have 75 minutes during one hour instead of 60 minutes. All of a sudden, you have 25% more time during that very hour to do what you love to do! Pretty exciting right?!? Well, we all know that’s impossible, but what if it could happen?

Let me suggest that it does. Not when we add more minutes to the same hour, but when we shave off minutes so that we can get 75 minutes of work done in just one hour. Now, that would be exciting because we would be getting more done in less time! In your organization, are you seeking ways to shave time? For your productivity? For stewarding your resources for the good of your business? For honoring your customers by quick service (without losing the quality, of course)?

The clock in your customer's mind is always moving faster than yours.

  1. Right now, identify 1-3 ares you can utilize speed in your business. Now, what other places can you apply a speed mentality for the good of the customer?
  2. Do you think you can be more profitable when you focus on speed? Why or why not?
  3. How is a customer’s perception influenced by your speed? (or by your lack of speed?)

I believe you should want to be known for your speed in serving your customer. This will always be a worthy goal - fast, accurate, complete service - because the clock in your customer’s mind is always moving faster than yours! That doesn’t mean you cut corners to be available, or just give an easy quick solution that doesn’t actually help. But rather, be intentional about discovering ways to increase your capacity with the same amount of time.

Challenge: Find at least 2 areas in your life where you could be maximizing your impact if you simply moved faster. This could be on the job, at home with your family, or just as you relax and have down time. If you want to grow as a leader, then prioritize speed in your life, because you’ll look back down the road and be amazed at how much you accomplished!
