What Value Alignment Will Do for Your Church or Non-Profit

The good news is your existing volunteers and staff recognize the need...what need? The need for their time, energy, and effort to be given toward the cause. But in the church/non-profit world, it’s easy to lack clarity on what it means to actually be helpful, without specific guidance around the mission, vision, and values. In other words, people hear about a need and can feel good about knowing they did something to provide aid. But without alignment to that organization’s values, or the current goal, perhaps their time and resources are only beneficial in the short term, while not actually helping the organization progress in their long term focus.

On the contrary, if your volunteer opportunities are directly connected to the values of your church or non-profit, and that individual volunteer knows their time, energy, and resources are aligned to those values, they are more likely to feel engaged in the short term, and subsequently will be compelled to continue volunteering, donating, or giving of themselves for the long term. This kind of alignment will produce a stronger commitment to the cause, because small menial tasks now have a big impact, due to their connection to the mission, vision, and values.

Mark Rhodes — Values Alignment Consultant

Let's do something about it!

Values outlast events, opportunities, services, trips, educational workshops...even your staff and volunteers! Thus, it is imperative you weave the values into everything for the health of your organization. People will see the long term significance, and you will better engage your volunteers by connecting their tasks to the DNA of your church or non profit.
